Times / Fees / Location / Optimal Frequency / Student Responsibility / Personal Information Viniyoga retains the classical tradition of private sessions in order to cultivate a personal practice suited to individual ability and purpose.
Private sessions are limited to one or two persons. Two people, however, should have compatible goals for practice. Private sessions can be special for couples. Each session is complete in itself and usually the practice is sketched out in what I call a "Yoga prescription." Like most practices, however, it can take several sessions to cultivate and become comfortable with. Typically the practice will evolve. Some students only come once and some will come for months. Commitment to personal practice is required for results. These sessions can be very different,
so it is difficult to generalize. Still, they always start with a discussion
of your purpose for practice. The tools are breath, movement and, as
appropriate, other classic elements. Sometimes I will recommend books
to read or students will bring in inspirational passages or meditative
themes to weave into their practice. Students who have studied with me for a while can more quickly move into more advanced practices if they wish. Commonly the practice for experienced students will weave asana, pranayama and purposeful reflection or meditation into a complete practice. These are further adapted for personal physical and energetic purposes. These may be expansive and uplifting or purifying and inward focusing.
